Sustainable Living Fair

We are excited to be working with the founder of the Greener Lead Festival on some promotional items, and website. Leadville’s first Sustainable Living Fair will be Labor Day Weekend September 4-6 2010. Booths are available or vendors (to be located at the Hayden Ranch, which is a restoration project sponsored by Colorado Mountain College. Music will be played all weekend at the NEW Ice Palace Amphitheater, The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum will host the sustainable living fair, and Colorado Mountain College will host workshops.

Leadville will host the Greener Leadville Festival the first weekend of September (September 4-6 2010). The Festival will feature the following events:

Music – Featured at the Tabor Opera House and the New Ice Palace Amphitheater.
Greener Living Fair – The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum
Farmers and Artisan Market – Hayden Ranch
Workshops at Colorado Mountain College Timberline Campus
Organic Food and Vendors at both Hayden Ranch and the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum
Green Transportation – National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum

Leadville Art Fair a Success

I was lucky enough to spend the last two days with some very talented artists, various forms of photography were on display, as well as paintings and mixed media artists. Allison Kohn had her paintings on display on Saturday and I was so impressed. We were lucky enough to be able to watch her paint. She has an ability to mix the human form with nature, her tree images are beautiful.

Morgan Ostrander (Meophotography.com) the founder of the Mountain Air Art Fair was very busy coordinating the event, and she did a great job. She told me today that she’d have another and hopes to have more Leadville Artists join us.

The owner of Penny Lane kids had hula-hoops on display that she made herself. She also entertained us with her very talented abilities with the hula-hoop.

I sat next to Jen Junto(artcurrents.com) who is a mixed media artist. She managed to get a group of us interested in continuing to get together. Jen’s artwork is amazing. She has to be one of the most creative artists I have met in a while. Her art included ceramics, jewelry, and several 2D images. I loved her Bookplate Series.

I did manage to meet another artist that wasn’t even part of our art fair. Lori Burt (zanyzak.com)and her husband had brought their dog to the show and he had a beautiful color, the most amazing color I’ve seen on a dog. It was leather with turquoise on it. We all hope she’ll join us on our next art fair.

Memorial for murder victim Yvonne “Vonnie” Flores

The “Walk for Vonnie” is scheduled for 8 p.m. Sunday at The Center, 315 West 6th St. in Leadville.

The gathering place will be marked by a sign reading, “We Love Vonnie,” created by some of her students.

At 8:17 p.m., walkers will walk toward the Lake County Court House, 505 Harrison Ave. Once there, anyone who wants to will be invited to speak.

A moment of silence will follow.

Organizers ask those who participate to wear green in remembrance of Vonnie. For more information call the Advocates of Lake County at 719-486-3530.

Leadville Summer Activities – June 10/11 2010

Leadville Weekend Activities:

Leadville is busy with activities this weekend!

First off head on over to the Scarlet or Bobbies for your entertainment, there is usually a live band at Bobbies, and tonight DJ Diction will be playing your favorite dance music at the Scarlet.

There is a Rodeo at the fair grounds this Saturday and Sunday, so if you’re a lover of cowboys, roping, and the rodeo head on over to the fairgrounds located at (address) with map.

On the lawn of the court house (between 5th and 6th on Harrison) don’t forget to visit Leadville’s first art fair. The Mountain Air Art Fair will take place Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. There will be music entertainment as well as displays of art by many very talented Leadville artists.

There are several garage sales in town – one on West 8th!

Of course there is always the Mineral Belt Trail, hiking, bicyling, and fishing! Oh and let’s not forget rafting. Leadville has wonderful weather this weekend so be sure to bring a sweater as well as sunscreen!
