Reasons to Visit Leadville and Twin Lakes In Summer

May is here – With Summer almost here we want to invite you up to enjoy our many splendors! Leadville has quite a bit of activities. Our stores and restaurants are open and ready to serve you! Hundley’s Fudge awaits you…can’t you just taste the best fudge in Colorado? Why wait for summer! The fudge is fresh daily and waits for you to enjoy the many flavors.

Leadville’s restaurants and bars are ready to entertain you! Sometimes if you’re lucky Zichitella’s has a special. The Burritos at Manuelita’s recently receive high reviews why not try one of these wonderful burritos! It’s not the only Mexican food restaurant in town we have several so be sure to visit them as well too! Maybe Mexican isn’t what you are in the mood for that is just fine head on over to the Golden Burro for some good ole’ American classics. A wonderful hamburger and fries can be enjoyed here, and don’t forget the delicious breakfasts! Maybe you’re just taking a ride through town and you want a cup of coffee head over to Provin’ Grounds!

I told you we had shops waiting for you, several gift shops and art galleries are on main street. We have shops that also cater to the outdoor enthusiast be sure to visit Sawatch Backcountry, Bill’s, and Alpine Ski Shop. Alpine Ski Shop features fishing tours in the summer. I personally believe we have great fishing located all around Lake County, Fly fisherman always enjoy fishing on the Arkansas River so be sure to ask our outdoor specialty stores in town where the best place to fish is!

If you’re not into the outdoors think of the history we have to share. Our museums are waiting your arrival and you can spend days in these museums. I cannot choose a favorite – Healy House (the gardens and the home are wonderful), Heritage Museum (lots of history here), Tabor HOme, National Mining Museum, etc. We also have a walking tour you can take through town – visit the Leadville and Lake County Chamber of Commerce for details on the walking tour! A great place to go and it’s free is the Mineral Belt Trail. Part of the trail takes you by many of the old mines, there are plaques along the way to tell you about the mines and different history tales along the trail. Bring your bikes because biking is always welcome!

If you want information we have the Official Visitors Center located at the Leadville Chamber office, and inside the Golden Burro we have another visitor center. Either way we are sure you are to find the information you are seeking during your visit.

Our town is lucky to have the Colorado Mountain College’s Timberline Campus located in town. Currently the college offers associate degree programs with an expansion to four year studies coming soon!
