Walking Through Leadville Part 2
Okay I have to tell you the second part of my walk I did enjoy but I was tired. I am just starting to get around again after surgery last year, but I was determined to enjoy my walk through town.
After the gallery we continued down the street I was enjoying the outside air while Kenny stopped in a couple of the shops. He went into the antique store, I love what she has in there by the way, and then we went to the Movie Store. The lady behind the counter was extremely friendly and we talked about why we all love Leadville. As her and Kenny talked I decided to rent a couple of movies, especially when I saw that there was NO LATE FEES now that beats the Red Box Rental. I have to say I don’t like renting from a box because when the movies are messed up you are still paying for it, until they can get it checked or whatever. You aren’t able to deal with a real person. So we rent from the LOCAL movie rental shop now.
This visit got me thinking about how people who don’t come here do NOT really know Leadville. I mean the guy in The Denver Post called our town a “dirt bag town” now granted he apologized and said he loved us but he really messed up when he said he loved going to the steak house in Stringtown. Now if he has been here recently he would of known the restaurant isn’t there anymore. So what are you missing if you don’t truly know Leadville.
We are very friendly and nice people. We are this way because we have chosen to live a simpler life than those who live in the city. We aren’t worried about traffic, or constantly on the go. Many of us love outdoor activities and can be found playing in the wonderful fresh air we are lucky to have. See there is less pollution up here. We have less oxygen yes, and some say that we are crazy because of that.
I think not. If you can live at this altitude you are actually healthier. I think most of us are healthier by choice. We don’t have all the fast food restaurants that a city has. Most of us do not eat out and when we do, we have wonderful restaurants locally to choose from.
Than again…are we crazy? Okay we have some characters around here. They are harmless and add to our towns charm. Some of us have chosen to live up here for the quiet and solitude life. Some of us can be found at the Scarlet (ScarBar), Bobbies, Pasttime, or the Silver Dollar on a weekend night. Do you know how hard we work during the week?
Most of the citizens of Leadville work for one resort or the other. Many do housekeeping, sales, lifts, retail management, food services, etc. You get the idea we service many of you when you visit these resorts. We do our best to be pleasing and make everything welcoming. So after working hard many decide to enjoy themselves.
So if you are looking to dance you head on over to the ScarBar is there a DJ tonight? Band? or do we get free pool and free jukebox playing? Lee and Chuck do their best to keep everyone happy. If you are in town head on over grab a cold one and say hi!
Bobbie’s also has live music on weekends. You usually know ahead of time what’s going on because she’ll have posters all over telling you. This is a locals favorite. Come on in to and say hi to Bobbie!
Well now that’s enough about our night time establishments. Yes the other places have entertainment. The Silver Dollar is packed on weekends and is a favorite to locals and visitors. Come St. Patty’s day this is the bar to go to. The Pasttime always has something going on too, head on over! We sure do want to make sure no one goes thirsty here.
OH back to the dirt bag part. See if you come to visit you would see we are a friendly town in the middle of the Colorado Rockies, sitting 2 miles high. You will find the friendliest people here. We are friendly because we know the life we live isn’t easy but the rewards are plenty. See we know the secret that only a local knows about living up here. We get the joy of the most colorful beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We can enjoy simplicity something I think many people forget to do when they’re so caught up in this electronic world. Up here cell phones don’t always work. We don’t need to always be connected to the world. Shh…I can’t give away all our secrets.
OH and our best steakhouse is Quincy’s on Harrison, just in case you were wondering.
See this is the kind of mind wandering that happens when I am waiting for Kenny to finish talking.
